My strengths

I recently took the Strengths Finder 2.0  test and was surprised by my results. Let me start off by saying I am the type of person that doesn’t know myself very well so the results taught me more as well as opened my eyes to the type of person I am and what I can do with that. The test is about 30 minutes long and it  has a scale that goes from strongly agree to neutral then back up to strongly agree and it has a statement on each side where you pick which one you are more like. The problem I found was that they didn’t ask you opposites of each other which could have affected the test. For example, one you had to state if you were tidy or stubborn, but can’t you be both? This bothered me about the test but I still find the results to be helpful and true.
My top five strengths came out to be positivity, belief, includer, responsibility and realator, in that order.  Looking at my top strength, I would like to state that this is very like me. Although, when you think about a positive person you think of a bubbly, outgoing, social person. I am all of these things but only when you get to know me. So for those who don’t know me very well or at all, we can look at positivity internally too. “You are generous with praise, quick to smile and always on the lookout for the positive in the situation.  Some call you light hearted. Others just wish their glass were as full as yours seems to be.” When reading what positivity meant, that part stuck to me. I am the type of person who never likes to look at the downside of anything and is always looking up. When there is something bad lingering around me instead of paying attention to it and letting it drag me down I look at the bright side and at all I have in life that make me happy. I strongly believe I am a positive person and I hate every unhappy moment that comes my way and always look for a reason to smile. I think that this top strength was correct and it opened my eyes to show me more about the type of person I am.
Bringing my strengths into the real world and my future won’t be tough. I am an exploratory student here at Ithaca College but I know that I want to go into something with the health sciences. I can use my positivity to look for answers and talk to patients about the up side of things and how to help them. I can use my includer strength to help others feel welcomed and accepted by me as well as use relator to make connections with those around me and make them feel comfortable. Judging by my strengths, it is a good thing for me to be going into the heath field where I can make others feel welcomed, comfortable and optimistic about what is to come.
